That is: do an exercise that you?re happy to do *for its own sake*. If you like walking on a treadmill while watching TV, do that. If you like switching things up ? a little time on the treadmill, a little on a bike, a little on a stair climber? do that. If you like a class environment, try spinning one day and another movement-focused class the next.
For example: last night i jogged on the treadmill while watching my favourite show on tv; then sat down on the rowing ergometer for a couple short sprints (fun!), and then visited the weight room for some deadlifts and squats (ah, my fav!).
I did each for their own sake, because i enjoy them, not because they were penciled in a to-do list. Exciting by my measure
There are a few ways but it depends on what type of person you are. If you are a loner then find an mp3 player and find the music that just makes you want to move and/or makes you feel good.?Rotate thru the treadmil, bike, and cross trainer. Use it during weight machines. Just change up. As long as you are moving you are burning calories and that?s what?s important.
If you like to be competative or having other people around helps, find classes to take. Dance classes, Zumba, hip hop, kick boxing, pilates and yoga are all great classes to rotate. For women, find a pole dancing class. It will help you loose weight, tone AND improve your confidence. Bellydancing will help with burning calories and toning as well.
Find a gym that has swiming classes, or do out door sports. Rock climbing, going thru your favorite trails if you have them near by.
Or the XBox Kinect is making it more and more fun with their new dance, zumba, sports and training games. Even the game for kids with the tigers makes you move around.
Find a challenge, make it game and make it fun. For example, last summer my challenge was to bike for 3,000 miles in 20 weeks. I made it fun by creating a several courses and challenged myself to get the best time of each course. I wrote all this down on a big white board to track it.
Also, exercise doesn?t have to be weight training, group exercise, or running. It can be hikes, mall walking, gardening, what ever gets your heart pumping. Do what is fun for you.
