Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Monday that Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer?s tense interaction with President Barack Obama last week ?brought back memories? of his own tarmac exchange with the president after the 2010 BP oil spill, as he recalled an incident that he said was ?obviously staged.?
?It brought back memories,? Jindal said on Fox News. ?It seems hard to believe it was almost two years ago. ? It was the president?s first visit after the oil spill. We were on the tarmac, he comes down there, obviously staged. They had already tipped off the Washington press corps to watch this interaction.?
Continue ReadingThe Republican governor said the president grabbed him by the arm and took him aside, only to express anger about a ?routine letter? that his office had sent to the Department of Agriculture instead of about the aftermath of the disastrous oil spill.
?He was mad that he was going to look bad,? Jindal said. ?I was amazed by two things: One, that he was mad about the wrong things, and secondly, that he was so thin-skinned it was clearly a media stunt. Clearly a political stunt. May have tipped off a couple of Washington reporters to watch this interaction to get this picture. It was disappointing.?
The governor, who has also written about the tarmac exchange in his book, added, ?I want him to be the president of the country, to come down here and lead. Instead, he was playing political theatrics.?
?Thin-skinned? is the same description Brewer has used to describe Obama after her exchange with the president last week in Arizona. The Arizona governor claimed that the president was offended by the way she had portrayed him in her book, ?Scorpions for Breakfast.? Obama brushed off the accusation in an interview last week, accusing Brewer of seeking out media attention.
