SOCCER
A&M honors players at annual banquet: The Texas A&M soccer team held its annual awards banquet Saturday at The Zone Club at Kyle Field.
The Offensive MVP and Newcomer of the Year awards went to A&M's leading scorer, Kelley Monogue. Rachael Balaguer earned the Defensive MVP and the Perseverance Award.
Beth West, who broke the A&M record with 14 assists this season, was named Midfield MVP. Annie Kunz was given the 12th Man Award, and Jordan Day was named Most Improved.
The Spirit of Aggieland Award was shared by Mary Grace Schmidt, Megan Majewski and Catalina Clavijo. The Iron Aggie, given to players achieving the most in the weight room, was split by Nora Skelton and Lyndsey Gnatzig.
SWIMMING & DIVING
A&M beats North Texas handily: The No. 6 Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team cruised to an easy 186-105 win over North Texas on Saturday at the Student Recreation Natatorium, where seniors Alyssa Conner, Anna Heller, Megan Latone, Rita Medrano, Megan Onstott, Jaele Patrick, Janie Potvin and Jo Thibodaux were honored before their final meet in College Station.
The Aggies had 1-2-3 finishers seven times on the day: in the 200-yard medley relay, the 100 backstroke, the 200 butterfly, the 50 freestyle, the 100 freestyle, the 200 backstroke, the 500 freestyle.
Erica Ditmmer won three events, finishing first in the 50 freestyle (23.48), the 200 breaststroke (2:16.06) and the 200 individual medley (2:02.96). Caroline McElhany and Maureen McLaine each won twice, with McElhany taking both the 100 (53.90) and 200 (1:57.59) butterfly and McLaine winning the 200 (1:49.19) and 500 (4:45.81) freestyles.
Other Aggies to win were Cammile Adams in the 1,000 freestyle (9:42.38), Paige Miller in the 100 backstroke (54.28), Breeja Larson in the 100 breaststroke (59.98), Kim Pavlin in the 200 backstroke (1:57.68), Christine Regone in the 100 freestyle, Patrick in the 3-meter springboard (382.13) and Rebecca St. Germain in the 1-meter springboard (327.76).
The Aggies will next compete in the Big 12 Championship meet on Feb. 22-25 in Columbia, Mo.
TENNIS
A&M faces Tigers today: The Texas A&M women's tennis team travels to Baton Rouge, La., Sunday to face LSU at 1 p.m. at the W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium.
The 30th-ranked Aggies are 1-1 after opening the 2012 dual campaign at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Tallahassee, Fla., where A&M fell to Ole Miss before defeating Ohio State. The Tigers are ranked No. 65 and are 1-0 after a shutout in their season opener at Colorado.
TRACK & FIELD
Aggie men win New Balance Invite: NEW YORK CITY -- Texas A&M's men claimed the team title at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational for the second time in three years Saturday, topping a field of 130 teams with 85 points while the Aggie women placed fourth with 59.5 points.
Henry Lelei was named outstanding male performer of the meet as he anchored the A&M medley relay to victory on Friday and set an Aggie school record in the mile at 4:01.49 on Saturday.
The women's 3,200 relay team of Tiffany Singleton, Aliese Hyde, Jillian Anderson and Hillary Hagan set a school record of 8:55.27 in finishing second behind BYU.
A&M's men's 1,600 relay team (Ricky Babineaux, Joey Roberts, Deon Lendore and Michael Preble) closed the invitational with a win in 3:07.98, while the A&M women (Ibukun Mayungbe, Kamarie Brown, Donique' Flemings and Olivia Ekpone) ran a 3:35.95 in the final section of the 1,600 to place second overall behind Clemson.
Dominique Duncan was runner-up in the 200 in 23.63, while teammate Ashley Collier (23.66) finished third. Oscar Ramirez picked up a third place finish in the 800 as he ran 1:50.27.
MacLean O'Donnell finished second in the Championship 3,000 meters with a personal best of 8:07.95.
Cameron Alexander cleared 7-0 in the high jump, good for third place.
