As a first-time father, and someone who is a practicing marriage and family therapist, I find myself in a unique position. One in which I am often learning from scratch, the trials and tribulations of what it means to be a father, to be a provider, and a source of support for my wife and baby girl at home.At the same time, I am a therapist for clients, some of whom are adults, and others are adolescents and their families. Though I may not be an expert in the rearing of adolescents, I have an ability to share perspectives and often can help families to reach a middle ground and find a peace and mutual respect within their household(s).I have been providing psychotherapy for over 10 years, with a great deal of my experience being with children as young as 5 years old, all the way up to adults up to the age of 60. As might well be ascertained, I do not profess to know it all, nor would I wish to, as it?s a learning process in my life, whether in learning how to care for, nurture, and foster the bonds with my daughter and my wife, or in working with my clients in my practice. Many times in the start of fatherhood, it is noted that it could be considered a role of part emotional container, part waste management facilitator, part comic and entertainer, and even part hustler (related to trying to make a living to support it all). I have a blog available, with the ability for readers to provide some of their own insights, and possibly allow some fathers to connect, who might otherwise not have such a voice online, as this seems to be more of a realm for mothers to connect, aside from mommy and me classes. This is as opposed to many fathers out there who have to continue to work, at times unable to spend the desired time at home bonding, other than just at times of awakening, just prior to bedtime, and then on intensive weekends.
