Watch as California fireworks display fires sideways into crowd

Nearly 30 people were injured Thursday night when a fireworks display in Simi Valley California went wrong, firing sideways into a crowd of about 10,000. According to the L.A. Times, officials are calling the incident an industrial accident and say that there is no evidence to suggest foul play.

Witnesses reported a large explosion about two minutes after the display began, then panic as people ran for cover and tried to protect themselves from fireworks that were shooting straight into the crowd.

?There was a big boom. Everybody started running down the street. People were screaming,? said witness Justice Allen, 17, to the Times. ?Everybody was just terrified. People hid in bushes.?

Ventura County Fire Department personnel set up a triage in the park to treat the injured, who had shrapnel burns and other injuries, mostly minor. Four people were taken to the hospital, but are expected to recover.

A Ventura County Sheriff?s Department bomb squad is being deployed to clear the unexploded fireworks from the scene.
