What is Health?
Health is how balanced you are physically and mentally. Examples of this are:
- what you eat on a daily bases,
- how much you hydrate yourself,
- ?when do you allow your body to rest,
- ?where you go,
- what you do,
- ?who do you interact with,
- where is your stress level?
- ?and how often you do physical activity (your fitness).
?
What is fitness?
Fitness is the physical state that your body is at. Some examples of this are how long your body can sustain a constant, even workout(Cardio vascular), or how fast you can react (agility and flexibility).
What are the components of Health Related Fitness? How can and why should you test your fitness?
?There are 5 main components of fitness. These are:
Muscular Strength: Muscular strength is ability of a muscle to exert a maximal force through a given range of motion or at a single given point.?Muscular Endurance: Muscular Endurance refers to the capacity of a muscle to exert a submaximal force through a given range of motion or at a single point over a given time.?Cardiovascular Endurance: Cardiovascular Endurance is the ability to continue training at a constant speed over a long period of time.?Flexibility: Flexibility is the ability of a joint to move and flex very far.?Body Composition: Body Composition is the ratio of muscle mass to body fat mass.
It is important for you to stay fit because when you get older and your heart isn?t used to working at a fast pace, this can cause you to have heart disease, heart attack, etc. But when you work your heart as much as you can for a long time, then when you are older and you cannot workout anymore, your heart will already be used to working heard at pumping oxygen and waste from your system, which enables you to live longer. Some tests that you can attempt are:
- The push-up test: cardiovascular endurance and muscular endurance
- Sit and reach: Flexibility
- 12 Minute run(cooper test): Cardiovascular
- Burpie test: agility and cardio vascular endurance
- BMI(body mass composition): body composition
By testing yourself, you can know weather or not you should start to think about exercising.
What types of fitness test have you used? How can we compare our results with other people?
?The types of fitness that I have used are the 12 minute run which tests your cardio vascular endurance. Basically in this test, what you have to do is run as many 200m laps as you can in 12 minutes. Then take the amount of laps and multiply that by 400. Last, you compare your results with the results below
?
Another test that we did was the BMI test. Also known as the body mass index test. This tests your body composition with the measurements of your height and weigh. Then you input them into a BMI scale and it show you your BMI.
BMI Calculator
We can compare our results with each other by making a chart or table with every ones name in each row. Then we can put a certain test for each column, this way, when you fill it out, it wont be confusing. Then fill out your results in your row.
How did you do these tests?
I did these tests wit certain equipment and space. For the Cooper test, what we did was we went to the part in front of school, which was 200m, then we got partners and each of us took terns running. Half of us ran together while all of our partners recorded each lap we ran. In the end, I ran 8.5 laps.
For the BMI test, what you do is you use a weight and measure your weight. Then what we did was measure our height and imputed it into the online?BMI Calculator.
What are some of the problems of using the BMI as a standard test?
Some problems about a BMI reading are that you can be over weight, but still be fit. Why? This is because your muscle weighs more than fat, so if you have a lot of muscle, the scale can read overweight, when it is just muscle.
