President Benigno Aquino III promoted health and wellness through biking this Sunday, May 15, 2011. PNoy who is currently a cigarette smoker encouraged the Filipinos to have a healthy lifestyle by engaging in active sports like biking.
Physical inactivity is one of the risk factor in acquiring non-communicable diseases specifically heart problems. By engaging in physical sports and activity with proper diet, the DOH believes that these diseases may be prevented.
Non-communicable diseases are the major cause of mortality in the Philippines like heart disease.
?Health is wealth and having regular exercise is one way to protect our health. Based on recent studies, regular exercises help prevent non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and diabetes, which are one of the leading causes of death in the world,? PNoy said in his speech.
After the ceremony PNoy along with hundreds of bikers went around the Quezon Memorial Circle. Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., Sen. Mar Roxas, and other cabinet members also joined the event.
The DOH launched this event to maintain a healthy body and prevent non-communicable diseases. Activities like biking, running, brisk walking, and other sports activities will help prevent the said diseases.
