Apple's latest iPhone propelled what analysts are predicting will be Apple's biggest-ever quarter, and the handset ended the year with strong holiday sales, maintaining its position as the best-selling smartphone at Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint. 1Combined iPhone and iPad sales in calendar 2012 are expected in one new forecast to reach more than 170 million in another record breaking 12-month span. 2Though the Android-powered Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S II also saw extremely strong sales, the fifth-generation iPhone handset led the way at all three U.S. carriers. 3"Our December checks indicated iPhone sales remained strong in the U.S., and we forecast total iPhone sales of over 12M units in the U.S. market for the December quarter," Walkley wrote in his research evaluation. 4
